Eighteen male and female researchers are among the first members of the Academia Professorum Iuniorum. It is intended to support young postdoctoral fellows taking up innovative topics and building new scientific teams.
Academia Professorum Iuniorum was established on 27 October by Rector Prof Arkadiusz Wójs and is one of the key elements of our university's efforts to promote scientific excellence.
- Its main task is to identify and support in the development of a group of outstanding, young, independent academics representing various disciplines and building scientific teams or undertaking new research topics, says Prof Arkadiusz Wójs. - The academy is also intended to serve as a platform for unfettered, creative intellectual exchange between its members and to facilitate the expression of researchers inside and outside the academy. It is intended to be a continuation of the already proven concept that is Academia Iuvenum," he adds.
The term of office of the eighteen people just appointed will start on 1 January 2024 and will last for two years. Ultimately, the number of members of the academy may not exceed 36, and the election of up to 18 new researchers will take place annually. All members will receive a two-year internal grant of PLN 120,000. This can be used for expenses related to the establishment or development of a research team or taking up a new research topic.
By establishing the Academy, we are also fulfilling the objectives contained in our university development strategy. In it, we have declared, among other things, to focus on pioneering and groundbreaking research in important areas of science and technology and to promote professional development. It would be hard to find a better combination of these two great challenges," emphasises Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs.
